Adding a deck to your house can be a great additional feature that can provide a seating for entertaining family and friends. Deck plans come in a variety of sizes that you can choose to suit your need. You can make 12 x 20 deck plans to accommodate your gathering space. In building the deck, you can do it yourself with careful planning and construction.
Before really constructing the deck, make the plans first. Layout 12-by-20 foot deck on a grid paper with 4-by-4 posts every 10 feet to support the rim joist. Make the drawing on a graph paper to determine the material need for constructing the deck. Span the 12-foot length of the deck using 2-by-10’s. Place 2-by-10 floor joist between the rim joist and along the length of the deck at 16-inch intervals. Now you can determine the number of pieces of decking to calculate the material needed to build your deck. 12x20 deck plans are now ready to use. After making the plans, prepare the area. Grade the ground under the deck to let it drain away from the house.
After that, place a layer of landscape fabric over the deck pad area and a layer of gravel over the fabric. Use the graph paper plan you have made to mark the location of post. Drill holes at the marked location using a post hole digger. Dig the holes below the frost line to prevent the deck from frozen during freezing weather. Once the area is ready, you can start building your deck. In this part, you should have prepared all the tools and materials needed to build your deck. Get the woods cut in the proper measurement and installed properly as a sturdy construction. If you find it not easy to build your own 12x20 deck plans, find some plans on some sites to use as you guide during this project.
